According to a new report by the National Obesity Forum and Public Health Collaboration you should!
Eat fat to get slim. Don’t fear fat; fat is your friend
In my opinion, it’s all just a media circus to get headlines, Public Health England shot back with a reply that ‘advice to eat more fat is irresponsible’.
I’m by no means qualified to give professional nutritional advice but due the industry I’m in, I’m frequently asked about diet. I can only comment from my own experience and I go by the rule that too much of anything is bad for you and balance is the key.
As a Pilates Teacher, a lot of my clients motivation for coming to class is to lose weight and when I’m asked directly if Pilates will help with this, I’m always honest. The answer is NO! No amount of exercise can help a poor diet, the bottom line is that if you consume more calories than you burn you will put weight on.
What Pilates can help you with is connecting your mind and body, by getting you to become more in tune with your body and to treat it with the love and respect it deserves. When you do this, you won’t want to fuel it with junk food, you will look after it, like the amazing vessel it is.
For the record, I avoid eating low-fat, low-sugar or light foods, preferring the full-fat unprocessed option. I eat lots of vegetables, fish, eggs, nuts, fruits and sweet potatoes, but I do have a weakness for sugar which needs to be kept at bay! And while not all sugar is bad for you, think fruit, sweet potatoes, raw honey and coconut sugar, my own weakness is of the chocolate kind.
