So…….I promised to give you a progress report on my 3-day detox. Had I not announced my intentions to the world last week I’m not sure I would have gone ahead with it if I’m completely honest!
This is all of my fruit, vegetables and herbs for my 3-day detox
A detox takes a lot of planning, preparation and above all, willpower.
I’ve had a juicer for about 18 months and for the first 6 months I juiced most mornings, sometimes instead of breakfast and sometimes as well as. The book that came with my Phillips juicer is ‘The Juice Master’ by Jason Vale, and it’s actually a really good introduction to juicing and smoothies.
Jason says ‘
Juice magic, only occurs with freshly extracted juice, please never be deluded into thinking that any juice or smoothie you buy in a shop comes anywhere close to what you can make fresh at home’.
Do you really need to detox?
Probably not, the body does clean itself naturally – but only if give the chance to do so. Detox is a buzz word that tends to be overused, especially in January. Personally, I don’t really need to do a detox, I don’t drink and I eat healthily most of the time so for me detoxing is more of a personal challenge. I see it as a chance to test my willpower and to give my digestive system a break, the other huge benefit of juicing is the amount of time it frees up from not having to prepare and sit down to eat food, its quite surprising!
I started my day with a hot water and lemon, followed by a juice of:
2 apples
1 carrot
1 slice of lemon
1/4 red bell pepper
1 slice of cucumber
1/4 piece of celery
1 piece of brocoli
1 slice of beetroot
This is what my breakfast and lunch juice on day 1 looks like
The same juice is repeated at lunchtime, and another 2 juices later on in the day.
How am I feeling?
It’s 5pm on the first day of my detox and I’m a little hungry and definitely craving something to eat, I’ve almost succumbed to eating something else a few times today. I think the real test will be after 2 hours netball training tonight. I’ll have another juice when I get home around 10pm, ‘my evening meal’ juice. And above all, I’ll need to make sure that I get plenty of sleep. Only 2 more days to go…….
